I have had much experience both practical and theoretical with business.
my first business, like most people, was as a boy of 10 with a car wash business( i learnt not to wash cars with dirty water and dirty mud encrusted cloths)
moving on, practical experience

Success for me started at age 31
I had done alright for 3 years previous to this
eg bought first house, had 2 cars, wife, daughter and some pennies in my pocket with no debt (always looked after money and never really cared for keeping up with the Jones)
Success started for me with the repair and sales of 2nd hand appliances
Finding and renovating appliance and selling through freeads and boot fairs!
I didn’t do very well but I paid the bills and saved some money(£300 per week gross)!
I worked very hard but it was more a labour of love (like now with marketing) I would constantly do over 100 hours a week and this was for a few years(hated holidays because didn’t want to leave my customers and business) I would go to bed at 1-2 and up at 7ish.
I say success because I was happy doing this everyday, I love to learn new stuff, meet people, earn some money, buy new tools, new van and books, could look after my family and self also learnt what passion was lose!

So I ambled along in this business, not touching the internet for about 4 years, then decided I needed to ramp things up, so I studied yellow page marketing and turned my business from £15-22k pa to £75k to £250k pa (spent 100k or more figuring it out LOL) Fantastic hey! No and I’ll tell you why…read on!
Now the pages has died a bit and the internet is coming online in a big way so 2007-8 I started figuring what worked online for my appliance business, I tried PPC (pay per click, adwords) SEO (Search Engine Optimization). My business from online leads has brought in about 50% of my leads for a fraction of the cost.
The BIG Thing Now and you have no choice!!!!!
Google places (maps), Bing maps and yahoo maps, I started dominating on these about 3 years ago, not thinking about it too much, but this is where my leads were coming from!
I tried many things but what really works is adding pictures, videos(a must, i can show you how), being in close proximity to what google thinks of as town centre and of course as many good reviews as possible!
